General Overview

Bharat Innovates 2026, Global Innovation Showcase is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, with strategic guidance and inputs from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India”, designed to represent India’s R&D backed technology innovation prowess being nurtured at its HEIs / CFTIs, on the global stage. Aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Jai Anusandhan”, the showcase would serve to position India as a global leader in technology innovation and entrepreneurship, supported by a resourceful university entrepreneurship ecosystem and technical institutions.

To be organized at France, the initiative seeks to curate and present promising and path-breaking technology innovations at various stages of development to a global audience comprising industry personnel, investors, policymakers, potential collaborators, and technology partners.

The Global Innovation Showcase will be held in France between 17th – 19th June 2026, following a ~9-month selection, mentoring, and preparation cycle.

Yes. Bharat Innovates 2026, Global Innovation Showcase is the inaugural edition of the India’s Global Innovation Showcase.

Eligibility

To participate in this program, applicants must meet the following criteria, 

  • Be part of a student-faculty team in a research lab or at a pre-incubator at MOE’s Higher Education Institution (HEI) or Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI), OR 
  • Be part of a team of innovators incubated at a Technology Innovation Center, Incubation Center, or Research Park in India associated with MOE’s HEI/CFTI, OR 
  • Be willing to secure a formal association with MOE’s HEI/CFTI’s innovation infrastructure.

Yes, you can participate assuming that you are willing to secure association with an MoE sponsored HEI/CFTI. We will guide you on the process and related terms and conditions upon your selection. 

The innovation must be between Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3–9. Refer to these links for TRL definition (What is TRL and TRL for Biotech). You may also use this TRL Calculator, to help you understand your TRL.

Yes, what matters is the presence of novel, research-based technology or IP. The delivery model (service, product, or hybrid) is not a deciding factor. However, ideas that lack any proprietary technological innovation or R&D component are not eligible.

No. Each innovation may only be submitted under one of the 13 specified technology themes. If your innovation appears relevant to more than one theme, you may refer to the provided guidance (Guidance on Choosing the Most Appropriate Theme) to determine the most appropriate theme for your application. The organizing team reserves the right to make the final determination of the applicable theme, if necessary.

No. To be eligible for this showcase, you must be part of the ownership team of the venture/startup applying. The intellectual property (IP) rights for the innovation should be held by your venture/startup, not by an employer or another entity. 

No. This showcase is intended to highlight innovations from startups, early-stage ventures, and independent teams. Industry-sponsored research or projects primarily owned or funded by large corporations are not eligible to apply. We encourage startup teams, founders, and innovators with independent IP to apply.

Yes. Suggestions for modifications to the terms and conditions can be submitted through the mid-call consultation section on this page. A small processing fee of Rs. 500 applies per submission batch, to ensure seriousness and manage administrative costs. Note: You can submit all your proposed changes together in one batch; you do not need to pay separately for each individual change request.

Yes. You are welcome to seek clarifications about the call or share general feedback at no cost using the contact or query channels provided on this page. This does not cover requests to change the terms and conditions, those must go through the paid mid-call consultation process described above.

Technology Themes

There are 13 themes, led by premier Indian institutions, including Advanced Materials, Energy & Climate, Agri-Tech, Semiconductors, Advanced Computing, Healthcare, Space & Defence, Next-Gen Communications, Disaster Management, Blue Economy, Smart Cities & Mobility, Manufacturing & Industry 4.0, and Biotechnology. Application Process

Applications open 29 August 2025 (10:00 AM IST) and closes on 5 November 2025 (11:59 PM IST).

Only through the official Bharat Innovates online portal.

Yes. At the time of application, you are required to make a payment of Rs. 3000.

No. Pre-registration is only Stage 1. Your application will be considered only after you complete Stage 2 – the Detailed Application Form and pay the application fee.

The Stage 2 link and instructions will be shared on your registered email address after successful pre-registration. Ensure you also check your Promotions or Spam folders if you do not see the mail in your inbox.

If you haven’t received the email, you can directly access the portal at bharatinnovates.accubate.app. Use your registered email ID and select the “Sign in with OTP” option to log in and access the Detailed Application Form.

If you are not currently enrolled in any institute, please mention the name of the institute from where you last completed your education (graduation or post-graduation) and choose “Alumni” as your status.

No, all details in the application form will be considered as your final representation. No further clarifications will be sought during the review process. 

No, only applications submitted through the official online portal will be accepted and considered for review.

Selection & Evaluation

Applications will be assessed on multiple parameters, including the degree of innovation, market potential, technical maturity, societal impact, and the capability of the team. These parameters form part of an overall assessment framework designed to ensure a fair and comprehensive review. 

Disclaimer: The evaluation criteria and process may be refined by the organizers if required, and the decisions of the evaluation committee will be considered final.

Yes. Additional team members may travel to France; however, the expenses for the third and any subsequent member(s) will need to be borne by them. 

At this stage, it is envisaged that up to 100 teams may be selected to travel to France. The final number will be determined by the organizing team with the aim of ensuring the strongest possible representation of innovative ideas across all technology themes. Every eligible application will receive fair and thoughtful consideration. Selections will take into account the quality of submissions, diversity of innovations, and other program-related factors. The decision of the organizing team regarding the selection and number of teams will be final and binding. 

No. All support is indicative and subject to budgetary approvals. The government may modify or withdraw benefits without prior notice.

No. Innovators retain full ownership. The Government of India will not claim any commercial rights.

Commitments & Responsibilities

A continuous ~9-month engagement, including domestic bootcamps and travel to France for the final showcase. 

Yes. Selected participants must provide annual progress reports for 2 years, acknowledge Government support in public materials, and participate in impact assessments.

Legal & Compliance

No. Travel is only for final selected teams and depends on visa approvals.

The Government of India bears no responsibility for disputes, losses, or commercial outcomes.

Yes, the Ministry has the right to terminate participation at any stage for non-compliance or other reasons, without compensation.

If your idea isn’t yet protected by patent or IP filing, avoid disclosing publicly sensitive technical details beyond what’s needed for evaluation. Bharat Innovates maintains confidentiality by using your information solely for review and selection purposes.

Copyright registration is not mandatory at the application stage, but if you wish to protect your software, consider applying for copyright or other relevant IP protection according to your progress. 

Endorsement letters are required only from applicants who do not have any formal association or proof of serious commitment, such as grants, incubation support, or investment. If you have already received substantial grant funding, incubation, or investment, you are considered to have implicit endorsement, and no additional endorsement letters are needed. 

Yes, you can register on the application portal as an ‘unregistered startup’ if you have not yet incorporated your venture.
