ABOUT BHARAT INNOVATES
Bharat Innovates is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, designed as a global accelerator for innovation emerging from India’s higher education and research ecosystem.
India’s universities and premier Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) like IITs, IISc, NITs, research institutions, incubators and research parks are increasingly becoming engines of innovation, transforming ideas from classrooms and laboratories into technologies, enterprises and solutions for the world. Bharat Innovates seeks to build on this strength by identifying and accelerating high-potential deep-tech innovations associated with India’s HEIs and research ecosystem, and connecting them with the capital, industry, technology partners, research institutions and markets needed to achieve scale.
The initiative focuses on deep-tech rooted in deep research, advanced science, engineering, intellectual property and frontier technologies, from advanced computing and semiconductors to healthcare, biotechnology, space and defence, clean energy, advanced materials, mobility and next-generation communications. Its ambition is to enable globally relevant technologies, built in India for the world.
Bharat Innovates follows a rigorous national curation process to identify innovations with the potential for significant technological, economic and societal impact. Beyond showcasing, it facilitates mentoring, technology and market validation, investment, industry partnerships, pilots and proof-of-concepts, co-development, commercialisation and international market access. The focus is on helping promising innovations make the journey from deep research to technology, validation, enterprise, industry adoption and global markets.
The maiden global showcase of Bharat Innovates was held in Nice, France, from 14-16 June 2026, under the India-France Year of Innovation. It brought together 120 curated deep-tech innovators and 45 research and innovation projects from 15 leading higher education institutions, connecting them with global investors, corporates, universities, research institutions and governments. The event recorded 2,000+ participants from 29 countries, 1,350+ B2B matchmaking meetings, 80+ startup pitches to 50+ investors and USD 254 million in announced funding commitments. It also catalysed institutional partnerships and new pathways for investment, pilots, technology collaboration and international market access.
The inaugural edition demonstrated the depth of India’s deep-tech capabilities and the potential of its higher education ecosystem to create technologies of global relevance.
