Build a connected research, industry and startup ecosystem that translates IIT Madras science into deployable products, patents, startups and national-scale solutions for Bharat.
Problem
Frontier academic research often remains fragmented across papers, labs and prototypes, while industry, government and society need faster pathways from research to validated products, capital, talent and real-world deployment.
Solution
IIT Madras combines its academic departments, centres of excellence, industrial consultancy and sponsored research systems, Research Park, Incubation Cell and industry partnerships to move research through IP creation, prototyping, startup incubation and commercialization.
Potential
The ecosystem has demonstrated national-scale potential through 567 incubated startups valued at over Rs 74,100 crore, 112 startups incubated in 2025-26, 431 patents filed in the year, 15 centres of excellence showcased at the 2026 technology summit and deep-tech activity across AI, robotics, quantum technologies, semiconductors, healthtech, climate tech, defence and cyber-physical systems.
