Lead-free piezo-electrics

Defect-driven large electric-field strain in thin piezoceramics

Vision

The discovery opens new possibilities for designing piezoceramic materials applicable in large strain/bending

Problem

This discovery was not planned. However, this novel phenomenon and its understanding offers great scope for piezoceramic-based industries

Solution

The bending deformation demonstrated as a result of our discovery can, for example, be exploited to design monolithic piezoceramic cantilevers and a variety of other such devices

Potential

The piezoceramics market is ~USD 1.8 billion (~4.8% CAGR). Exploiting our discovery to develop new piezoceramic products can help partners capture much of this market.

Target Beneficiaries

Piezoceramic industries and product developers

Current Users

The work is currently at a developmental stage
