Capacitive Deionization based water purification system
A Sustainable and energy-efficient brackish water desalination system
Vision
We envision a world where every community has access to clean, safe drinking water with essential minerals through sustainable, energy-efficient CDI-based brackish-water systems.
Problem
Conventional desalination (RO) suffers high energy consumption, high reject water, low recovery, and complete demineralization—environmentally unsustainable and unsuitable for long-term community drinking-water needs.
Solution
Praan-Jal, CDI unit using electrosorption at low voltage and atmospheric pressure for energy-efficient desalination—delivering safe drinking water with low rejection, high recovery, and retained essential minerals at low cost.
Potential
Over 50 CDI systems (3,000–1,00,000 LPD) deployed across India, UAE, Jordan, and Sri Lanka; scalable to millions of users globally.
Target Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries include local households, industries, and municipalities, as well as foreign governments, NGOs, and water-stressed communities seeking an affordable, energy-efficient desalination system for safe drinking water.
Current Users
Commercialized via NGEN Water Solutions (incubated at IIT Tirupati); customers include Bosch, Khalifa University, ITC, Novotel, ICCW-IIT Madras, Lemon Tree, Aditya Birla, Fortune, and BHS.
